Static Butterfly Wings

Use invisible electric force to make wings flutter!

๐Ÿงฒ Physics Fun
โญโญโญEasy Peasy!

๐Ÿ›’ Supply List

Check off supplies as you gather them!

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step

Step 1: Build a Butterfly Body

Cut a small butterfly body from cardstock and tape or glue it to a table or piece of paper.

Step 2: Add Light Wings

Step 3: Charge the Balloon

Step 4: Hover, Don't Touch

Step 5: ๐Ÿฆ‹ Flutter Time!

๐Ÿ”ฌ Why It Works!

Rubbing the balloon gives it a static electric charge. Opposite charges attract, so the lightweight tissue paper is pulled toward the balloon. The force is invisible, but the fluttering wings help you see it in action!

  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธAsk for help with scissors if you need it
  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธKeep popped balloon pieces away from toddlers and pets
